Committee Description

The G8+5 committee will meet in the year 2014, the year before the Millennium Development Goals' deadline of 2015. The G8+5 committee must first cope with the challenge of meeting the Millennium Development Goals on time; a challenge considered nearly impossible by some in the international community. Delegates must consider the state of the Earth in the year 2014 and from there derive a drastic course of action to help accomplish the Millennium Development Goals with respect to the ever-looming threat of climate change and its implications on water systems management, global living conditions, and food availability. At the same time, the committee must decide whether to remain as the G8 developed nations, or to expand to include the 5 developing, "Outreach Nations" in the O5 and as included in the G8+5 summits. In past discussions about this issue, debate has proven heated and divisive. Before this 2014 G8+5 summit is over, delegates must come up with a plan to accomplish the Millennium Development Goals within the next year and decide the future of the G8 summit structure.
