Committee Description

On December 10, 1949, Communist forces had completely surrounded the city of Chengdu in mainland China - the last remaining stronghold of Chiang Kai-shek and his Kuomintang Party (KMT). That same day, Chiang and other KMT leaders were airlifted to the island of Formosa (Taiwan) where they went on to form the government of the Republic of China. In this historical crisis committee, delegates representing different factions of the Kuomintang will debate the feasibility of remaining on the mainland to fight or fleeing to Formosa. They will also eventually begin forming a new government in Taiwan while accomplishing the following: 1) dealing with rebellion from native inhabitants, 2) fighting for international recognition as the true representative government of the Chinese people in the UN and other world bodies, and 3) handling the threat of invasion from the Communist mainland.
