Committee Description

Mao's Politburo, circa 1975, will simulate the highest body of the Chinese Government, presiding over a time when China was deeply conflicted over which direction of development (if at all) it was to follow. Though Mao Zedong still possesses ultimate power, his faculties are failing, and different factions are fighting to fill the vacuum and rule through his name. Issues will include strategies for economic development, relations with the Soviet Union, Japan, Taiwan, and the U.S., ideology, protests, and of course a very potentially bloody question of succession hovering over it all. Participants will include the Gang of Four, Deng Xiaoping, and other primary military and political figures of the time. Who will emerge to rule China - and what will it look like, or be left of it, after all the conflict at top
